5 Easy Home Remedies For Frizzy Hair

Frizzy hair, or as we’ve all come to know it ‘summer hair,’ can be very tedious to deal with in the excessive heat and humidity during the summertime. We leave our homes with normal waves and curls only to come back later that night looking like something out of The Lion King.

If you’ve every thought that you could out-smart the humidity by blow drying your hair or using heat then you probably found out the hard way that heat only makes the frizz bigger and badder. Lack of moisture is usually the cause for frizzy hair, this can be due to a number of factors including; excessive use of heat, chlorinated water, humidity and exposing hair to too many chemicals.

The good news is, we’re not doomed with frizzy hair every summer, there are a number of ways to help tame the mane. Firstly, it is important to ensure that you’re drinking enough water to keep your body hydrated and eating hydrating foods as well. Secondly, a proper hair care regimen is needed to keep the hair strands moisturized and hopefully less frizzy in the humidity. Below are five ways to treat your hair at home to help tame the frizz.

Avocado & Olive Oil Mask

The mixture of avocado and olive oil has super hydrating benefits for the hair that will tame frizziness and add shine.

What You Need:

  • 1 avocado
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil


  • Mash up avocado
  • Add olive oil to avocado and mix
  • Apply mask on all of the hair and leave
  • Rinse hair after 30 minutes.


Banana & Yogurt Mask

Bananas help condition the hair, combined with yogurt and honey this mixture locks in moisture and helps with split ends.

What You Need:

  • 1 banana
  • ½ yogurt cup
  • 2 tablespoon honey


  • Mash banana
  • Add in the yogurt and honey and mix
  • Apply mask to hair and cover with shower cap
  • Rinse after 30 minutes and then shampoo and condition normally.


Lemon & Honey Mixture

This mixture helps reduce frizz as well as any built up dirt from the hair. The honey helps give your hair shine as well.

What You Need:

  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 cup water


  • Mix all the ingredients
  • Pour mixture on washed hair
  • Massage scalp for 5 minutes
  • Leave the mixture on the hair for 10 minutes.
  • Rinse and then shampoo normally .


Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse

Apple cider vinegar helps vastly when fighting frizzy hair, and also gives the hair a healthy shine and removes any built-up dirt.

What You Need:

  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 cups water


  • Mix the apple cider vinegar and the water
  • Wash hair with shampoo
  • Pour the mixture over the hair
  • Leave the mixture on the hair for a couple of minutes and then use a conditioner normally.


Eggs & Olive Oil Mask

Egg yolks are rich in fat and protein, making them great for moisturizing the hair and reducing frizz. The mixture of olive oil helps lock moisture in the hair.

What You Need:

  • 1 whole egg
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil


  • Whisk whole egg and then add olive oil and mix.
  • Apply mixture on hair and leave it for half an hour.
  • Rinse your hair after and then shampoo and condition normally.
