As the candles on our birthday cakes slowly but surely increase, we need to start being more aware of our bodies and taking better care of our health. A complete lifestyle transformation would be great, but for today we’re giving you just three simple changes that everyone can follow. They might be small changes, but your body will thank you for years to come. Start off small and slowly add more healthy habits to your lifestyle, leaving you no excuses for not incorporating some benefits into your life.

1. Eat Your Greens
As we get older, our bodies aren’t as efficient at erasing our eating mishaps. You can no longer eat leftover pizza for breakfast and feel fine after it (sad, but true). We get that not everyone is ready to make big healthy eating commitments like giving up their favorite junk food for good. But instead of focusing on removing unhealthy items from your diet, you can start with adding healthy foods. Get into the habit of eating a serving of green vegetable everyday, regardless of how unhealthy you have been eating the rest of the day. This might not seem like a big step, but it is a great place to start.

Green vegetables are a great source of antioxidants, but more importantly they are loaded with calcium to help you build strong bones and fight the inevitable bone mass loss that starts after you turn 30. The stronger your bones are before that age, the more you will be able to withstand the losses. A healthy diet will not only boost your calcium reserves, but it will enhance the long term stores of all your nutrients. As we get older, we are less efficient at absorbing nutrients from food, so making sure you have essential stored nutrients within your body will help with every aspect of your health.

2. Wear SPF
The sun is something we are exposed to everyday and it is a fact that we need to protect our skin. Sun damage is the biggest culprit to ageing, but that doesn’t mean we need to stop enjoying and loving it. Incorporating SPF to your skincare routine is a simple addition that will protect you from harmful sunrays. Even when it’s  not necessarily sunny, you should make it a habit to wear SPF everyday. Trust us, you will thank us in 10 years. Read more about SPF in our cheat sheet here.

If you are starting the SPF habit a little later than you would like, you can try a rejuvenating mask to reduce fine lines and darkened areas associated with ageing. Simply spread a thin layer of dark, organic honey onto your face and let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes before washing off. Honey is extremely high in antioxidants to fight off skin damage and improve its quality.

3. Learn to Walk, Everywhere
At TDC we believe taking a stroll around Zamalek’s streets is one of life’s simple pleasures. Being physically active is not just about hitting the gym 3 times a week, simple changes in your everyday life can help you become fitter, happier, and healthier. Whether you are a frequent exerciser or not, you should start walking to more places. Park your car a block away from your destination and walk to it or take the stairs whenever you can. Doing this might seem weird at first, but once you get used to them they will become part of your daily routine and you won’t even notice you’re doing them anymore.

Once you have walking sorted, you can upgrade to joining a workout class, or even simply doing a home workout. The earlier you get yourself into a fitness routine, the easier this will be to maintain as you get older.
