With the clouds rolling in, the sky threatening to rain and the crisp morning air, we might be finding making waking up for work slightly more daunting. Which is why we recommend you take a break from all the hum-drum. Instead of spending the Christmas holiday under the covers warming your toes in fuzzy socks, you can go to the beach. Yes, the beach! There are places you can go to, in the middle of December where you won’t have to don your wolly socks. These beach destinations are where you can get the sand between your toes even in the coldest month of the year.

1- Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain

December and sun-bathing aren’t words that go hand in hand. But Tenerife is the best kind of beach destination because it’s unlike the rest of Europe. While everyone is decorating their Christmas trees in the cold weather you’ll be lounging below a palm tree. And what is better than that? The Canary Islands has a large English speaking population. But if you want to be in the area with the most English speakers, make sure to stay in the areas around Los Cristianos and Playa de la America.

2- Bangkok, Thailand

During the winter when everyone is experiencing the harshness of the cold weather Bangkok is a summery haven. Because the country lies in the southern hemisphere December is one of the warmer months in the year. December also happens to be the best month to visit this beach destination. Especially since the humidity drops around that time of year. Most travelers stay by the river. But if you want to stay off the beaten track you can try staying in Khosan Road, a cheaper district that is meant for backpackers and globe trekkers.

3-Montego Bay, Jamaica

December avg high: 84°F/29°C
December avg low: 72°F/22°C

Montego Bay is much like other destinations in the Carribean this time of year, warm, toasty and sandy. But be warned! The latter part of December, especially around Christmas time, can run you a huge price tag on tickets.  Though you have nothing to worry about since, Montego Bay’s airport is 90 mins away from Negril and Ocho Rios. And both these destinations are equally stunning and most importantly sunny!

4- Cancun, Mexico

December avg high: 83°F/28°C
December avg low: 70°F/21°C

Cancun is worth mentioning in the list because of the beach resorts that litter it’s coastline.  We should mention that it’s composed mostly of high-rises. So, if you’re looking to escape the city this might not be the best choice. But, Playa del Carmen only an hour south is worth checking out for those moments when you want to escape the hustle and bustle of tourists.

5- Pink Sands Beach, Bahamas

Most people will tell you to go to Nassau or Paradise Island. But if you want to avoid commercial resorts then you need to visit pink sands beach. The beach itself is nestled on a coral reef that stretches for 3 miles. It’s only a short ferry ride away from its tourist trap counter parts. Plus, if you haven’t already guessed it this beach comes with it’s own special feature: PINK SAND!
