Cancer is still in this day and age, a plight that scares the whole world. Even with the endless state of the art medical procedures, and advanced medicine that promise a cancer-free future, so many lives are taken daily by the disease. Breast cancer, in particular, is statistically proven to be the most common cancer in women in the developed and less world and in Egypt alone 34% of women suffer from it. We all know that most of the time the only way to survive cancer is with chemotherapy. This form of therapy though mostly effective does have major disadvantages that are usually harder to bear than cancer itself. You lose your hair, your immunity, your appetite, your tastes buds make everything taste wrong, and most people lose their will to fight this disease.
Thankfully, we have someone like Inas Hafez, Therapeutic Nutritionist, who give us all hope by saying no to the degrading way cancer and chemotherapy leaves you feeling while you’re trying your hardest to stay alive. When the doctors told her that she’ll need a mastectomy to remove the tumor (along with both her breasts), she sought out a different route, one that won’t change her appearance, her appetite for food and for life.
Hafez was interviewed by Radwa El Sherbeiny on the show “هي و بس” on CBC Sofra to talk about how she became a cancer survivor who did not undergo chemotherapy. Hafez replaced chemotherapy with the “Alkaline Diet” and it not only cured her cancer, it changed her life. She then studied Therapeutic Nutrition and set out into the world to help women (and men) lead a healthier cancer-free lifestyle.
The Alkaline Diest is basically a diet where you cut out all the majorly acidic foods and replace them with healthy food that can be ground from the ground. Food like sweets, soda drinks, fruit juices, all dairy products, meats, poultry, processed goods like sauces, canned food, and even honey should be cut from your meals for this diet to work
Vegetables are going to be your main food source, 80% of your meals should be plant-based. Everything from dark leafy greens, broccoli, avocado, legumes of all kinds, seeds, grains, and nuts should be on your menu on a daily basis. You can also eat fresh fish, not fish that was reproduced in fish farms.
And of course, we can’t forget, water. Whether you’re following the Alkaline Diet or not you need to drink adequate amounts of water every day to help your body function at its optimal capacity, and flush all the toxins from your system. You need 1 liter of water for every 20 kilos of body weight, so if you weigh 60 kilos, you should drink 3 liters of water per day.
The amount of courage it must have taken to take a risk and not follow the commonly approved methods of curing cancer to opt for a healthier way less damaging way to reach remission is beyond inspiring to all cancer survivors out there. Only they know how hard it truly is to be faced with such a cruel disease.
