When it comes to sharing your life with a partner, Melisse and Shahan have made sure they do it in a fun way by capitalizing on their passions for food and travel. Through their shared platform @CairoFoodieCouple , they have wowed us on Instagram with their picturesque snaps of different destinations and various dishes. We decided we just had to have a chat with them to learn more about their lives.

Can you tell us a bit about yourselves and give us a glimpse of your story?

Shahan is Egyptian Armenian, and I’m an Armenian from Turkey. I moved to Egypt after I got married to shahan 4 years ago.
Surprisingly even our story started on Instagram. Shahan liked my picture through a hashtag and that’s how it all began.

How did you turn your passion for eating & traveling to a full-fledged blog?

Since the beginning of our relationship, we have always been passionate about exploring different cultures. Actually, the first time we decided to meet was in Lebanon. That passion went on and we started to share our personal pictures and recipes on Instagram. That’s when we also started to receive positive comments, and we created our mutual account @CairoFoodieCouple.















Of all the dishes you’ve tried all over the world, what are your top 3 and why?

My personal favorite is a Georgian dish called khingali. Shahan is more of a steak person, so his choice would be Armenian barbecue. We’re also very much into Mediterranean mezzas.

Can you give us some relationship advice on how to keep a long-term relationship fun?

When we were dating, we never let the distance get to us by travelling to new cities together. If you don’t have the chance to travel abroad, you can always share little adventures and explorations together locally, wherever you are!















Of all the destinations you’ve visited, what are your top 3 and why?

Lebanon has a special place in our hearts. We love traveling to the United States, especially with friends. Also, Armenia amazes us. Its such an old country full of beautiful scenery and amazing food.

What food photography tips would you give young foodies who are working on starting their food blogs?

The whole idea is to make the food look appetizing. The most important element here would be the lighting. A good camera or phone would be their best bet. Also never use phone flash while taking food pictures.


















We heard that you guys are great cooks, can you give us one quick & easy recipe for one of your signature dishes?

We have a Hazelnut brownies recipe that is to die for and it yields 9 three-inch square brownies.


275 gr bittersweet chocolate, chopped

1 stick (1/2 cup) of butter

1 cup sugar

1+1/2 cups hazelnuts, blanched & toasted (divided)

3 eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp salt

Preparation Method:

Center a rack in the oven and preheat your oven to 350F.

Line bottom and sides of a 9-inch square pan with parchment paper and set aside.

Place one cup of the toasted hazelnuts into a food processor and process until finely ground.

Chop the rest of the hazelnuts roughly.

Melt butter and chocolate in a bowl over simmering water and let cool for 5 minutes.

Add sugar and whisk until combined.

Add the eggs, one at a time, and whisk until combined.

Stir in the vanilla extract.

Fold in flour, ground hazelnuts (1 cup) and salt into the batter.

Fold in roughly chopped hazelnuts (1/2 cup) into the batter.

Pour the mixture into the baking pan, smooth the top with a spatula and bake for 35 minutes.

Let cool to room temperature.

Cut into 3 inch squares and serve.
