In case you haven’t noticed, Winter is upon us, and that means it’s officially Flu Season. I think everyone I know right now is either fighting a cold or just getting over one. So, we wanted to help you get over the cold you probably have right now (you and me both). Here are some great natural ways to naturally help your body get better when you’re sick.

1. Water will give you life

I know you’ve heard it said a bazillion times but no matter which way you toss it, you can’t run away from drinking water. I know you probably have a ton of reasons why you are not drinking enough water. However, I truly believe after you see how fast you get better with enough water intake, you’ll find no reason to not drink water.
Proper hydration will help your body heal quicker as it helps the organs function at their optimal rate. It will also ease that blocked nose of yours. Our noses get blocked because of mucus build up. When you drink water you make your mucus more watery and less, mucusy. That means you’ll breathe again through your nose at night. Also, water is a life saver when your sinuses get blocked and causing searing pain through your ears (ask me how I know). So, do yourself a favor and before you do anything else, drink your required amount of water.

2. Hot Showers

While we’re on the topic of H2O, taking a hot shower can do wonders when you’re feeling beaten down by your sickness. The steam clears up your nasal passageways and helps liquefy mucus so you don’t have to breathe through your mouth. The hot water on your skin also helps boost your blood circulation, which is always a great way to boost your overall energy.

3. Aromatherapy

If you want to take your hot showers to the next level why not fill up the tub (or just a big bowl if you want to save water) and add a few drops of essential oils. Eucalyptus and tea tree essential oils are some of my favorite E.O to add to hot water ( I add a few drops to around a liter of water) for a good old aromatherapy session when I’m sick. This works like magic to unblock all your respiratory passages.

4. Gargling with salt

Everyone I tell this trick to would literally swear by it and how effective it is. This works wonders if you’re naturally fighting a cold with a sore throat. The salt helps purify your throat and kill bacteria. Just add one teaspoon of salt to a glass of lukewarm water and gargle till you finish it. Some have reported the feeling of being reborn after using this method, but I digress. In all cases, you have to try it.

5. Sleep

You probably know this already but there is a reason you get really sleepy when you’re sick. Your body needs the rest to literally heal itself. Most of our recovery processes actually happen while you sleep. Also, your body is using up a lot of energy and resources to fight the invading bacteria naturally, so it’s understandable that you feel sleepy. So, listen to your body and go catch some Zs.

That being said, make sure to see a doctor at the beginning of your cold symptoms. You need to make sure it really is just a cold or the flu and not some underlying serious disease. If you’re cold persists for more than 2 weeks, you should revisit your doctor or a holistic medicine specialist to find out what you’re doing wrong.

If you want to know even more natural ways to fight off a cold, here are 7 of them. As always, share the flu-fighting love and send this to someone who’s been battling with the sniffles lately
