Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) once said, “There are two kinds of knowledge: knowledge of religion and knowledge of the body”. Being aware of what you put into your body and taking care of it is a religious duty, although many of us neglect to see it as such. Today, we discuss the prophet’s (PBUH) favorite foods and how they can contribute to your good health today.

The date fruit was dear to Prophet Muhammad and mentioned in the Quran more than 20 times. He said, “He who eats seven dates every morning will not be affected by poison or magic on the day he eats them”. Prophet Muhammad also recommended that dates be eaten at the time of childbirth, and today dates are used worldwide as oxytocin and labor boosters during the birthing process. The many benefits of eating dates include boosting energy, preventing anemia and stimulating nervous system health.

“If a fruit ever descended from Paradise, I would say this is it”, said Prophet Muhammad when discussing figs. Figs are high in fiber and a good source of several essential minerals, including magnesium, manganese and calcium, the main mineral needed for healthy bones.  Figs are also rich in copper and potassium, which work simultaneously to help lower blood pressure.

Pomegranates are thought to have been the prophet’s favorite fruit, and modern scientific research has proven pomegranates to be one of the healthiest foods on the planet. They contain manganese, which helps in the formation of bone structures during the metabolic process, and potassium, which aids in maintaining cellular function and keeps a balance in fluid levels. They are also potent in flavonoids and polyphenols, antioxidants that protect our bodies against heart disease.
