DIY Healthy Plant-Based Nutella Spread

The plant-based ingredient this homemade Nutella is made of, make it a game-changer.

Not on its taste is fuller than the taste of store-bought Traditional Nutella, but it also is healthier which makes it a safer choice to be used as a spread, added to a cake or a smoothie.

Plus, all the ingredients of this delicious spread are accessible at any Abu Auf Store or Supermarket Booth.

Note: If the oil in the chocolate spread separates, give it a stir with a spoon until combined.



500 g Hazelnuts

1 tbsp Coconut Oil

1 tbsp Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

1 tbsp Coconut Sugar


Preheat Oven 180c

Single-layer the hazelnuts on the pan and toast them for 15 - 20 minutes.

Once toasted, let Hazelnuts cool and skin them.

In a High-Speed Blender or Food Processor, blend the now cool Hazelnuts for 4 - 5 minutes, until flour-like or almost creamy consistency.

Remember to keep on stirring through while blending.

Add Coconut Oil and keep on blending until a creamy consistency is reached.

Add Cocoa Powder and Coconut Sugar and blend until all ingredients are fully combined.

Transfer paste into an airtight jar for storage.

Hazelnut spread keeps fresh for approximately 6 months when stored in a dark cool place.
