It’s finally spring! The cold winter is coming to an end and it’s about time we ditch our dark lipsticks and cat eyeliner for softer, simpler and brighter looks. Not that there’s anything wrong with wearing dark colored makeup in the spring, but this season it’s all about dewy, glowing skin, and the minimalist makeup approach is being advocated like never before. Plush pink tones, and glossy glows are what you should be all about. Here’s the latest trend in spring makeup looks – inspired by New York Fashion Week beauty – and how you can recreate this stunning look for yourself.

First off – skin skin skin!

There is nothing I love more than natural glowing skin that looks refreshed, healthy and dewy. It is essential to start off your look with a good moisturizer (I recommend Kiehls Ultra Facial Moisturizer – it works for ALL skin types and moisturizes without an oily finish). The key is to massage it well into your skin; don’t forget that post winter the skin may be dehydrated and needs all the moisture it can get. It serves perfectly as a primer as well so that you don’t need to apply extra unnecessary layers of product onto your skin.

Whatever foundation you decide to use, for a flawless skin glow, mix a little MAC Strobe Cream with the product and then apply it to your face.

If you’re a lightweight lover, use Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer to create your skin base. If you want a little more coverage, use NARS Sheer Glow Foundation for complete coverage and a glowing finish.

Concealer – NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer is ideal for full coverage without drying up.

Use a Beauty Blender to blend out the foundation and concealer perfectly.

Once you’ve applied your skin base, use a tinted brow gel to create the messy, groomed, full brow effect that is trending right now. Brush upwards – always!

Use Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper (eyebrow mascara).

Simple & Stunning

To complete this simple daily look, apply some blush to your cheeks; MAC Blush in Desert Rose is the perfect pink. Apply the same shade of blush to your eyelids – I know what you’re thinking, but trust me – it will give a great tint of color that is both subtle and pretty.

Apply LOTS of your favorite mascara to really plump up those lashes. Skip the eyeliner this spring – no more cat eyes and wings! Extreme mascara is what this season is all about for intensity.

Apply Benefit’s Eye Bright pencil on your waterline, and Benefit’s High Brow Glow pencil on your brow bone and the inner corner of your eye for a highlight.

The perfect nude lipstick (which, by the way, isn’t matte this season) is MAC Viva Glam. It has a soft shine without being too glossy, and is a great shade. You’ll love this color!

Take it to the Next Level

To up your game, (with the same skin, base and brows as the first look) use a plum eye shadow shade and blend it all over your eyelid and on your lower lash line for a plum smoked out effect. MAC eye shadows in Sketch and Cranberry or Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette will give you what you need.

Add a little powder bronzer under your cheekbones for a subtle contour using Benefit Hoola Bronzer.

Intensify your lip color by darkening it slightly – completely up to your preference here, but my recommendation is MAC Whirl or Taupe matte lipsticks, (if you’re open to a slight glossy finish – since it’s a major trend right now – mix the lipstick with a little bit of clear lip balm or gloss).

Again, you can skip the eyeliner, but if you feel like you just want a little more definition along your lash line, then use a brown or black pencil eyeliner just to add some dimension to the eyes.

And again, TONS of mascara is a must here!

Use MAC Soft & Gentle Highlighter to create a glow on the brow bone, and on the inner corner of the eyes.

Don’t forget to use a setting powder over your concealer and fixing spray to keep your look intact for hours on end.

Use Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder, or if you are quite tanned use Bobbi Brown Retouching Powder in Rose. Remember to blend well!

MAC Fix+ sets your makeup, without losing the glow you created.

Be a little unique this spring and try colors that are out of your comfort zone. Pink, plum, red and burgundy are all the rage this season and just like anything else – you need to try it to love it! What I can ensure, though, is that you definitely will love it. After all, if NYFW and Vogue both dubbed these looks the perfect spring trends, who are we to disagree?

Happy making up, ladies!
