2018 is definitely shaping up to be the year of embracing your natural curls. Many women today are all about showing off their gorgeous, unstraightened curls and we are living for this trend. We talked to Sara Safwat, one of the co-founders of The Curly Studio, and had her tell us all about her curly hair regimen and how she keeps her curls vibrant all year long.
What was the idea behind The Curly Studio?
The dream was to have a specialized salon in Egypt that is able to provide professional care for curly hair for those who want to embrace their natural curls, which in turn became my co-founder Nariman El Sadr and I’s mission.
The Curly Studio is a chemical and heat free zone that also offers consulting services. This includes full hair recovery plans for those who are in their transition phase to going heat-free while ensuring their hair still looks beautiful with special, harm-free styling techniques. It is a one-stop shop for all popular and top reviewed products with all price ranges to cater to different budgets. It simply has it all for curly heads!
Can you give us your optimum at-home hair care regimen for curly hair?
This is my personal regimen that has helped me keep my curls healthy:
* I never brush my hair when it’s dry.
* I wash my hair 3-4 times a week; 3 times I use a conditioner & once with shampoo only.
* I always use a satin/silk pillowcase to avoid frizz and breakage during sleep.
* I deep condition my hair once a week & do an oil bath once a week as well.
* I never use cotton towels on my hair because cotton can absorb the moisture out of hair.
Sounds super doable, can you give us your top tips to keep your curls vibrant all year long?
Adding life to your curls starts with knowing just how to take care of them. Here are the initial steps you should take:
*Deep condition weekly for soft moisturized bouncy curls.
*Get a trim every 8-10 weeks.
*Drink lots of water.
*Eat lots of fruits and vegetables.
*Detox your hair from any product build-up or dirt every 2-3 weeks by using Apple cider vinegar rinse or baking soda.
*Use a microfiber towel or a cotton t-shirt to dry your hair.
What are your fave products to use on your curls?
It’s important to know that every hair type is different, but these are the specific products that have worked for me.
To wash my hair, I use Bubblz Shampoo, a local herbal shampoo.
For treating my hair, I use the Hair Addict Indian Growth recipe.
I also deep condition my hair with As I am Hydration Elation mask or the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Masque deep treatment mask. Moreover, to style my hair I use Curls Blueberry Bliss leave in with bounce curl gel or Kinky Curly Knot Today with Kinky Curly Curling Custard or Just Pure Flaxseed Gel.
