Last Sunday was quite an eye-opener for me, and everyone who attended the Neutrogena launch of their new range, “Hydro Boost”. You see, we all thought that the key to getting supple dewy beautiful skin is through regular moisturizing. Oh, how wrong we were.

What is the difference between moisturizing and hydrating?

To understand the difference between the two you need to understand the difference between dehydrated and dry skin. When your skin is dehydrated that means it’s lacking water and needs to be hydrated. When your skin is dry that means it’s lacking oil and needs to be moisturized.

This means if you apply an oil-based cream on your dehydrated skin, you’ll get a smooth face that is NOT elastic or soft feeling. This is why you need to give your dehydrated skin the proper hydration it needs by using a “hydrating” gel cream or lotion.

Now that we know the difference, how does my skin care regimen really affect my life?

Imagine how you feel when you’re on good terms with your skin, don’t you feel like you could conquer the world! Yeah, we feel you and Neutrogena does as well. Because the reality is, the way we look greatly affects how we feel about ourselves. That’s why Neutrogena’s dedicating this new range for women to have the best skin they could so they always put their best face forward and have nothing to stop them from achieving their wildest dreams.

So, now you know the powerful impact a soft fresh looking face has on one’s own confidence, you need to know what skincare routine could get you those results. You hydrate your skin to its fullest potential.

What’s the dermatologist opinion?

According to Dr. Tahra Leheita, the Dermatologist who spoke at the launching event, hydration is the key foundation to healthy skin. Your skin naturally has a reservoir of a powerful hydrating agent called “Hyaluronic Acid”. But, just like Collagen (what keeps your face young and firm), this reservoir gets diminished as we age. So our skin loses moisture and needs an extra boost of hydration to keep looking youthful and soft.

That’s why she stands fully behind the technology offered in Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost range. Dr. Tahra explains that each Hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water. Moreover, because of the unique technology this range possesses the cream or lotion will keep hydrating your face up to 72 hours after application. That is not all that Hyaluronic acid does. Well, as though that was not enough reason for us to fall in love with this natural skin hydrator, Dr. Tahra explains that it stimulates collagen production as well. When skin’s collagen is boosted, it helps your skin look firmer, younger, naturally plump and glowing.

What is the hydrating skincare routine I need?

Hydrate your body:

First things first, I probably don’t need to say this because you know by now that when you hydrate your body, your skin will benefit as well. If you don’t know how exactly to hydrate your body, you can calculate exactly how much your body needs here. If that’s too much to start with, a good rule of thumb is to drink 8 cups of water a day. While drinking more water will help your skin in the long run, it won’t be much help to instantly revive dull looking skin. That’s why the next steps will give your skin that extra boost of hydration it needs.

Wash your face with a hydrating cleanser/ makeup wipe:

You know how many of us prefer a cleanser that foams. Well, much to our dismay a lot of those foaming cleanser are actually bad for our skin. They contain something called “Surfactants”, this is essentially what causes them to foam. Surfactants can penetrate and irritate the skin’s surface, causing it to lose hydration.

The great thing about Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost cleanser is that it solves the whole Surfactant issue by using large polymer-surfactant complexes. That’s just fancy science talk to say they clump up the surfactants into large balls (so to speak). This reduces the number of surfactants that can actually penetrate through your skin. So, this means you can have a lathering foam without skin irritation. Not to mention, that this cleanser has Hyaluronic acid just like the rest of the range, so you’ll end up with a soft clean hydrated face.

The same applies to the Neutrogena Hydro Boost makeup wipe. Although wipes don’t have nasty surfactants, they can be harsh on your face. Not this one, because each wipe is rich with a cleansing soft lotion that has Hyaluronic acid. The Hydro-Boost makeup wipe effortlessly glides over your face and eyes, removing makeup and hydrating your skin. You can finally take off your waterproof mascara with a cleansing wipe and you won’t feel like you just exfoliated your skin with a sandblaster.

Follow up with a hydrating cream or lotion:

If you have Normal, Oily or Combination skin:

For those who fear to apply a cream that’s meant to hydrate your skin in case it makes you more oil, the Water-Gel Hydro Boost was made for you. Its ultra-light texture gets instantly absorbed and intensely hydrates your face. It’s even suitable for those with sensitive skin! With the fear of being repetitive, I have to remind you that this too has Hyaluronic acid that’ll make your skin thank you for your right choice of cream.

If you have extra Dry skin:

The Gel-Cream Hydro Boost will be the best thing that happened to your skin. This was formulated for those with dry to extra dry skin. It’s a Hyaluronic acid rich gel made for intense hydration that is fragrance-free and suitable for sensitive skin. This one also has a higher glycerin content that helps your skin combat dryness and keeps it hydrated all day.

End with a hydrating lotion:

Regardless of the weather and current season you should always apply sunscreen. The Hydro-Boost City Shield is a hydrating lotion that has SPF 25, enough to protect your skin from sun rays, pollution, humidity and wind that you face every day in the city. To top all that, it also has Hyaluronic acid to hydrate and strengthen your skin’s defenses with anti-oxidants to protect against pollution.

So, as you see we’re pretty much obsessed over here with this new range and we can’t believe we lived this long without Hyaluronic Acid in our lives. Thank the skincare lords for Neutrogena’s Hydro-Boost range keeping us looking fresh supple and super hydrated skin. We can’t wait to see what happens when we take over the world with a perfectly hydrated flawless face.
