How Can One Become a Certified Practitioner?

Here are the steps to become a certified DIRfloortime™provider

1. The first step is the DIR 101 course, “Introduction to DIR and DIR floortime”

Completing this course one will be able to identify common features of autism. Understand the D, I and R of the model and know the features of relationship-based approaches. In addition to knowing how health, sensory processing, and regulatory challenges can impact a child’s development. This is a training course that anyone can take if interested to enter the official DIR floortime professional certificate program.


2. The second step is the DIR 201 course, “Promoting basic functional emotional developmental capacities”

This is a practicum course meaning students will need to submit two case studies in order to successfully become Basic DIRfloortime™providers.  Students successfully completing this course will be able to correctly explain basic, discipline-specific concepts related to sensory reactivity, processing and motor planning development, receptive and expressive language development, and visual-spatial development. Moreover, correctly describe the central ideas of the first four functional emotional developmental capacities of the DIRFloortime™ Model.


3. The third course is DIR202, “Promoting higher functional emotional developmental capacities”

You will also need to submit two cases to receive their Proficient DIRfloortime™ certification. Successfully completing this course you will be familiar with the scientific research supporting floortime, describe the 6 main functional emotional capacities and demonstrated specific floortime strategies.


4. The fourth course is DIR 203, “Coaching caregivers, teachers, and providers”

You will learn to assess their own functional emotional capacities as well as identifying their own strengths and weaknesses. In addition, understanding the child and adult’s unique profile based on all his or her 9 functional emotional developmental capacities and individual differences. Students successfully meeting the requirements of this course will receive an Advance DIR floortime™provider certification.


5. Lastly is DIR 204

This course is designed to prepare a practitioner to be both an expert DIRFloortime™ provider and to become an ICDL Training Leader. You will demonstrate training leadership competencies by modeling reflective practice during an internship experience. Moreover, it is a chance to assist in one of the earlier courses and help in evaluating participants.
