With today’s latest news of shutting down all malls, coffee shops, restaurants and any places that can result in people gathering due to the quick upsurge of COVID-19, the idea of social isolation is finding its way to settle comfortably within us.

Here is a graph to show why social distancing is the best prevention measure the government can take to keep us safe.

Even Though many people are panicking about this news and restrictions, we at The Daily Crisp find these times to be a chance for each one of us to reconnect with their inner selves and provide what he/she needs to get better.

Here’s a list of things you, your friends, and family can do to keep yourselves safe and busy during this pandemic.

  • Coloring Books

Coloring Pages and Books are an “in-the-moment” activity which makes its properties similar to those acquired by meditating.

Coloring takes the focus away from the past and the future making us be in the here and now – this attribute makes our mental state much calmer as rids us of the stressors coming from past memories or future premonitions.

  • Complete Puzzles

Just as mentioned in the coloring books paragraph, Puzzles lower stress levels and it doesn’t stop there, they can also improve overall mood, Increase IQ levels and problem-solving skills. This activity can also be a good educational opportunity in the case of solving crosswords and/or language puzzles.

  • Dust Off Your Instrument and Practice

Practicing on a musical instrument is also a good way to relieve stress, but this is merely one of the many benefits reaped out of playing music.

Playing music increases creativity, discipline and time management skills, improves memory, and most importantly – the one thing we all need more of these days – improves patience.

  • Board Games with Family

The benefits of this activity are most probably the ones we need the most with the Coronavirus outbreak and the quiet unstable situation around the globe.

Board games not only ensure we have fun and spend some really good quality time with our families; however, it also reduces risks of mental disease, lowers blood pressure, reduces stress levels, and (the one we’re all working on very prominently these days) grows the immune system by reducing overall negative thoughts and feelings.

Home decluttering and organization have countless positive impacts on our mental health state. Funnily enough, this could be the hardest task to accomplish (especially during the extremely hectic lifestyles we led before the current situation showed up.)

Most of you might be already familiar with the Japanese Consultant Marie Kondo and her magical decluttering method KonMari, which is a system that helps to organize by getting rid of any items that do not bring heartfelt “joy” into our lives.
